Leasing of tourism sites beneficial
10 Jul 2014
The Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake has said transfer of tourism sites to central government will be determined through the use of existing standard terms that are used when Land Boards transfer land for various uses.
Responding to a parliamentary question, Mr Mokalake said the government does not have legal obligation to lease tourism sites but has found it necessary to do so due to potential economic gains.
He said there are already predetermined tourism lease terms which will be used. Minister Mokalake further said government will use competitive tendering to dispose tourism sites adding that direct allocation may be considered on exceptional cases of proven experiences in tourism business venture and financial capacity.
Maun West MP Tawana Moremi had asked the minister how lease terms are going to be determined. He further asked if the government is under any legal obligation to sub lease the sites and how the terms will be determined. MP Moremi further asked whether competitive tendering is imperative when government sub-leases sites. ENDS
