Siele acknowledges delay in assessment

There are a total of 98 houses (42 in Boseja central and 56 in Boseja south) whose owners claim they have been affected by the construction of Mochudi-Pilane internal roads project which commenced on May 2, 2009 and was completed on July 2, 2012.
Responding to a question in Parliament on Thursday July 3, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Peter Siele said all the 98 property owners submitted claims for their damaged houses to Letsatsi Investment, who were contracted by Kgatleng district council.
Mr Siele said he acknowledged the delay in concluding the assessment of the 98 claims, saying this is because his ministry through the Kgatleng district council is awaiting the insurance company (Mutual and Federal (Pty) Ltd) submission of a detailed report which will ascertain if indeed all the properties have cracked as a result of the use of heavy plant machinery during the construction of the internal roads.
“It is regrettable that the insurance company has failed to produce the report despite correspondence written to them by the Kgatleng district council on August 10, 2012 and subsequent follow ups, which culminated in the most recent letter written on the June 23, 2014,” he said.
Mr Siele was responding to a question from the Member of Parliament for Kgatleng East, Mr Isaac Mabiletsa who had wanted the minister to state the number of house in the said areas which cracked as a result of the use of heavy plant machinery during the construction of the internal roads.
Mr Mabiletsa also wanted the minister to state those who presented claims for their damaged houses to the construction company which was contracted by the Kgatleng district council as well as claims for compensation that have been honoured, and if not, what caused the delay. ENDS
