A beneficiary of the poverty eradication programme in Francistown has praised the programme for turning her life around.
Speaking in an interview recently, the 58-year-old Ms Keletso Adzina said the programme helped her change her life for the better. She said it had helped her to fully make use of her sewing skills, which she had for many years depended on to put bread on the table.
Ms Adzina, who sews exquisite German prints such as dresses, trousers, shorts and blazers for women said she was provided with sewing machines and materials to do what she loved at the same time earning an income from it.
She said the programme gave her self-esteem since she cannot go a day without food, stating that through her business, she can pay for utilities such as water and electricity and is also able to take care of her son and grandson.
Ms Adzina appealed to unemployed women to register for the programme in order to be able to sustain themselves and graduate from poverty.
Furthermore, she stated that the government has very good initiatives and programmes that are aimed at improving the lives of Batswana, therefore women should take advantage of such programmes.
However, Ms Adzina decried customers who take her products on credit, stressing that a lot of people love her designs but they take long to pay.
He said as a small and upcoming business owner, she does not have enough money to rent a stall at the Central Business District (CBD) since it is expensive.
This, she noted, disadvantages her because she cannot display her products to a lot of customers to see and consequently buy them.
Ms Judith Tabengwa, a customer said Ms Adzina was doing a good job, adding that women should use initiatives such as the poverty eradication programme to turn their lives around.
She said many people in Botswana were continuing to use the programmes to escape from poverty. Another customer, Ms Evelyn Setlhora said the poverty eradication programme is an excellent initiative, which Batswana should fully make use of. Ends
