I shall remain peoples servant - VP

01 Jul 2014

The Vice President, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe bid farewell to residents of Damochujenaa during a kgotla meeting he addressed there on June 27.

He told the residents that he would be retiring as the Member of Parliament for Mmadinare and also the country's Vice President  before the October general elections. He said it was time for him to retire and give way to a younger and energetic MP.

However, he told the packed kgotla that he still remained a servant of the people and that he would be available to give advice and render services to the government if he required to do so.

He thanked Damochujenaa residents for the love and support they had given him for the past three decades when he was their MP.

He said among the things he most cherished during his tenure as the area MP, was that he managed to advocate for Damochujenaa to become a recognised settlement after residents from Sedibe cattle posts moved to what was now called Damochujenaa.

He was also proud that during that time when the residents were requested to pinpoint their kgosi, there were no hustles or any conflict but rather, people unanimously selected Mr Motsholetsi Kebalipile.

Dr Kedkilwe went on to call on residents of Damochujenaa to continue to live in peace and in unity and he urged them to strive to be self-reliant.

He said the future of the village was in their hands and they should continue to work together to bring developments to the village and build a better future for the coming generations.

Meanwhile Kgosi Kebalipile of Damochujenaa alongside other residents of the village thanked Vice President Kedikilwe for the services he had rendered to their village. He said if it was not for Dr Kedikilwe, maybe Damochujenaa would not have been a recognised settlement.

He said as the area MP, Dr Kedikilwe contributed to the development of the village to its current status. The settlement had been connected to the grid, provided with portable water, had a clinic, a primary school and other infrastructural developments.

Mr Kebalipile said him together with his subjects had hoped that Dr Kedikilwe would stay another term in office but they had however, accepted his decision to retire. ENDS
