29 Jun 2014

The women expo in Gaborone showcases the determination by Batswana women to prosper as entrepreneurs.

The expo availed an opportunity for women to portray different skills in their various fields of work and profession.

Stalls displayed merchandise and company profiles ranging from fashionable German print cloths, leather bags and shoes to catering equipment’s and jewellery.

It provided women with different opportunities and interaction with the business world to display their products, while competing among themselves for the best stall.

One of the exhibitors and co-founder of Devine Scents, Ms Bonolo Obatlang, mentioned that this expo came at the right time as they wanted to intact with Batswana so that they recognise their existence and broaden their brand.

Devine Scents is a locally based company established and administered by two women.

They specialise in personal products, home products, hotel amenities, and other services like personal gifts.

“The motivation behind Devine Scents was based on the dry climate we have in our country,” she said. “So we wanted women to embrace their beauty through natural oils like morula and mowana which are infused in our body butter range.”

Ms Seipato Mothobi, a jewellery and accessories designer, exclaimed that she was blessed to be given a platform to educate people in jewellery making and to present her products. She also said that she designs her products using recycled material such as paper, tin, beads and plastic.

Her inspiration was to clean and beautify the environment at the same time as she also does plastic and paper plants for decoration.

Kgomotso Gibe of Contemporary African Fabrics & Accessories explained that her business was new having only been established July 2013 and looking to expand and become a leading fashion stable in Botswana.

“We want to close the gap and supply high quality African fabrics and accessories to people that want them but are unable to find them, and this women’s expo is giving us an opportunity to showcase what we do as designers and ultimately become one of the most prominent fashion houses in Botswana.” ENDS
