De Graaf applauds FNBB

First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) branch has been applauded for caring about the environment by availing infrastructure for waste collection and management.

Speaking during the launch and donation of waste management infrastructure to the community of D’Kar on June 22, Minister of Agriculture, Mr Christiaan De Graaff applauded Ghanzi  FNBB branch for showing its greener side.

Minister De Graaff, who is also the Member of Parliament for Ghanzi South, said with the earth facing so much pressure from activities ranging from population growth, global warming, uncontrolled overharvesting of trees and natural resources and shortage of water. 

The FNBB initiative was of great importance in contributing to the upliftment of the community of Ghanzi District. He said sustainable development encompassed taking care of the current generations and not compromising the future of the coming generations.

This support, he said, would leave a mark in the lives of the community of Ghanzi as well as D’Kar and its environment.The fruitful relation between the community of Ghanzi and FNBB dates back to 2011 when the bank hosted a Christmas party for the rural area development settlement destitute of Bere/Kacqae.

Other social responsibility activities Ghanzi FNBB branch has engaged in include Ghanzi hospital children’s ward refurbishment, donation of portable caravan to Ghanzi primary school as well as sponsoring of Charleshill horse race. 

The bank also sponsors the annual Ghanzi agricultural show.

Some of the objectives of this donation were to facilitate public health education on waste management, to reduce conflict between the local lifestyle and environment in which they live so that the area attract good livelihoods and investment opportunities, as well as to build and strengthen the bank’s relations with local authorities and government departments.

The donation of the waste infrastructure comprised 35 refuse bins, which will cover areas from the Mamuno 44 junction through to Ghanzi Township as well as in D’Kar. ENDS
