Villages to benefit from Thune Dam

23 Jun 2014

Tsetsebjwe and Moletemane are amongst villages that will benefit from Thune Dam, says MP for Tswapong North, Mr Prince Maele.

Addressing residents of the two villages on June 17, Mr Maele said connection of water pipes at Tsetsebjwe and Moletemane fell under contract 3D that was still in process.

He said the tender documents for the work were being vetted by PPADB and once the process was complete, the tender would be floated.

Mr Maele therefore said once construction of water pipeline was completed, Tsetsebjwe and Moletemane will benefit from the dam water, adding that this will help alleviate water shortage.

He said the same applied to 3B contract which entails the construction of pipeline from Molalatau, Bobonong to Lepokole and phase 3C comprising a pipeline from Mathathane to Motlhabaneng.

Mr Maele said Thune dam is undertaken in four contracts, the first one being the construction of a treatment plant at Thune whilst the second one entails the construction of the main pipeline from Mathathane, Molalatau and Gobajango.
The second contract, he said is still under evaluation stage and the expectation is that it will soon be awarded for construction.

On other issues, Mr Maele expressed his dissatisfaction with Tsetsebjwe and Moletemane schools’ performance. He said Tsetsebjwe JSS under performed because its feeder schools Tsetsebjwe, Busang and Moletemane primary schools are not doing well.

He said Tsetsebjwe JSS performance dropped from 69.9 per cent in 2012 to 33.8 per cent in 2013. He said for these schools to perform better, parents should join hands with teachers and play a role in their children’s education. He said parents should attend Parents Teachers Association meetings, help their children with homework and ensure that they attend school accordingly.

Mr Maele said some schools in his constituency namely Goo-Tau and Moeng primary schools and Gosemama JSS are performing exceptionally well as such other schools in the area should emulate these schools.

For their part, residents applauded the government for its plan to connect their villages to Thune dam connection. They also commended the government for addressing the problem of shortage of water and power cut in their villages. Moletemane’s PTA Chairman, Mr Andreck Moses said poor performance is a serious problem which is caused mainly by lack of parents’ participation in their children’s education.

He said there is a serious problem of Moletemane primary school students who miss school and those who leave school to work in the farms. He said some parents are not doing enough to get these students back to school, adding that parents are to blame for that. ENDS
