23 Jun 2014

Desert and Delta Safaris has adopted the guidance and counseling department of Tsodilo Junior Secondary School in Maun to assist disadvantaged students and top achievers.

The school head, Ms Senata Moleele said the five year agreement would see 10 disadvantaged students from the school being given school uniforms, stationery and a sponsored trip to Xhakanaka Camp every year.

Ms Moleele said the top 10 students achievers would enjoy a sponsored trip to Xhakanaka Camp for motivational purposes every year. Children in Maun, she said, faced many challenges such as lack of basic necessities which include school uniform, food and toiletry. She said the gesture by Desert and Delta Safaris would have an impact on the many lives of students who would benefit.

Desert and Delta financial advisor, Mr Rodney Gerrard said the students would be treated like paying guests entitled to accommodation, food and game drives at the Xhakanaka Camp. Mr Gerrard said they were proud to lend a helping hand to Tsodilo JSS, adding that government could not do it alone.

He said they were investing in students because they are their future employees and future of their business as their company operates mainly in the Northern part of Botswana, being Maun and Chobe. The principal education officer, Mr Justice Baloi hailed the gesture by Desert and Delta Safaris, noting that they were implementing the Adopt’ a School Initiative.

Mr Baloi said the donation cemented the Child Friendly School (CFS) concept as it brought dignity to the receiving students. Desert and Delta donated 10 school bags with complete school uniforms and stationery to this year’s 10 beneficiaries. ENDS
