Churches pray for missing Nigerian girls
22 Jun 2014
Various churches from Palapye and surrounding areas assembled at the Palapye main kgotla to pray for the 200 Nigerian school girls and 20 women kidnapped by Boko Haram Islamists in Nigeria.
Speaking at the church outreach campaign this week, the chairperson of the Ministers Fraternal, Bishop Sydney Setilo said the prayers were prompted by the fact that June 16 was the commemoration of the African Child so his organisation saw it fit to stand on behalf of Batswana to pray for the kidnapped school girls.
Bishop Setilo said it was important that Batswana should intercede for Nigeria in its time of tragedy. He added that Batswana stood with the west African country, especially that the tragedy could befall any country.
Pastor Becky Sibanda of Pentecostal Holiness Church condemned the abductions, saying the world was sick and affected by heartless monsters who were used by the devil to terrorise innocent people. He pleaded with Christian congregations to pray for the kidnapped girls.
Pastor Sibanda said families whose children had been kidnapped were going through a painful time as they did not know what their children were eating, where they were and what they were wearing. He asked God to grant wisdom to soldiers and other law enforcement agencies who were in the rescue mission. ENDS
