Rail Park Mall undergoes transformation

17 Jun 2014

The Rail Park Mall facelift project will cost over P20 million and will give customers a more exciting shopping experience, according to Mr Outule Bale.

Speaking at a press briefing, Mr Bale, whose company Khumo Properties manages the mall on behalf of Botswana Railways, said new tenants at the mall will start trading in November.

The project, dubbed The Rail Park Mall Facelift, is aimed at retaining customer loyalty and providing them with a more exciting shopping experience.

“Edgars is setting up shop at the mall measuring 2 091 square metres and they will be operating from upstairs,” he said, adding that as a result there would be changes for certain stores.

“Entities such as BotswanaPost, Layton, Centre Management, De Lingerie, Oesi Electronics, Botswana Railways, Le Taj, The Hairdresser, Hardware Emporium, La Femme, Bala Books, XOXO as well as ATMs have been moved downstairs,” he said.

He said the facelift would see the mall increase foot traffic as they look to attract more customers who are not traditional Rail Park shoppers. Mr Bale said Puma Energy and BotswanaPost/Savings Bank would also be coming on board, adding that they would change the landscape and appeal of the mall.

He also said the space that was previously occupied by Food Lovers Market would now be used by SuperSpar.

Touching on the mall itself, Mr Bale, who is the chief executive officer of Khumo Properties, said the mall was born amidst a culture of transformation when Botswana Railways decided to change the face of the Gaborone train station and bus rank and to provide more diverse business opportunities for Batswana.

“That idea has now developed into one of the largest commercial centres in the country, boasting a growing tenant base of over 100 stores and an average foot traffic of 80 000 people per month,” he said. ENDS
