Lorey Pearman says he was impressed by his performance even though he did not produce a medal in golf at the ongoing African Youth Games dubbed Gaborone 2014.

In an interview after the medal award ceremony on May 29, he said being beaten by three countries and getting position five out of 11 countries that participated was a great achievement in a country where golf was not popular.

Leroy finished with 228 points after having played a gross net of 79, 75 and 74 in three days over a 54 stroke hole at Gaborone Golf Club. His teammate, Baatile Mangole finished in top 10 with 256 points.

South Africa’s Kyle Mc Clatchie scooped gold medal with 212 points. The Ekurhuleni “boy” held on to his overnight lead and topped the boys division standings at five-under-par 137.

The silver medal also went to South Africa’s Hennie du Plessis in his rear-view mirror after the Limpopo golfer surged to second with 218 points. Du Plessis was two shots clear of Stuart Krog from Zimbabwe, who returned a 74 and winning a bronze medal also with 218 points.

In the girls division, Anita Uwadia of Nigeria won the gold medal with 227 points while Caro Els of Namibia settled for the second spot winning a silver medal after finishing with 229 points.

The Namibian carded a 73 to lead at six-over-par 148, three strokes clear of first round leader, Naomi Wafula, after the Kenyan returned a 78.

South Africa’s Eleonora Galletti was third on the spot winning herself a bronze medal. The Gauteng’s Galletti settled for the third spot after a play-off with Kenya’s Naomi Wafula, after the Kenyan returned a 78. Ends
