Monarch family receives house

27 May 2014

The department of water affairs in Francistown recently handed over a four-roomed house to the Molatlhiwa family of Monarch location in the second city.

The project, which the department initiated in 2012, was a joint project between various stakeholders, among them the Botswana Police Service, Matshelagabedi Cluster, Monarch social work services and water affairs staff.

Speaking during the handing over, businessman, Mr Ogomoditse Maruapula commended the department’s regional officer, Mr Galejewe Kago for the hard work.

By effectively spearheading the project, Mr Kago had shown exceptional leadership and capabilities, Mr Maruapula said, adding that Botswana needed generous people to assist in the achievement of the country’s Vision 2016 principle of a ‘just, compassionate and caring nation’.

Mr Maruapula said that Francistown needed to be revamped and he encouraged the department to move to other parts of the city to eliminate poverty. He also urged them to work with government in order for their efforts to have an even bigger impact.

The Director of Water Affairs, Dr Obolokile Obakeng said it was the company’s culture to lend a helping hand in the community.

He stated that it was the eighth house that they had managed to build for the less privileged members of society.

The beneficiary, Ms Ommonye Molatlhiwa thanked the department for their noble gesture and encouraged them to extend a helping to other less fortunate members of society.

Ms Molatlhiwa had been living with her ten orphaned grandchildren in a one roomed house with no electricity.

The department restored her family’s dignity by building a house which consists of two bedrooms, a shower and a toilet. Out of the ten children five of them are school-going. ENDS
