Mohohlo central governor of the year

Bank of Botswana governor, Ms Linah Mohohlo, is the Central Bank Governor of the year.

According to a press release from Bank of Botswana, the award was bestowed by the African Banker Awards Magazine on May 21 in Kigali, Rwanda at the time of the annual meetings of the African Development Bank.

The release stated that the African Banker Awards Committee representative said, “the committee highlighted extraordinary and continued leadership in successfully steering her (Ms Mohohlo) economy throughout the international financial crisis, stabilising the economy and currency, as well as maintaining Botswana’s reputation for its high degree of transparency and public awareness in economic matters.”



It further said the committee also noted her outstanding vision in inviting ratings agencies into the country, thus further developing Botswana’s international reputation as a well-governed state and leading to an investment-grade sovereign credit rating, which has positively contributed to economic growth and diversification. 



The African Banker Awards Committee commended Ms Mohohlo’s personal integrity and professional reputation as a well-regarded leader in both African and international circles, stated the release.



The awards, which were designed to promote entrepreneurial excellence and world-class practices in banking finance were the eighth edition, organised by African Banker magazine, IC Events and Business in Africa Events (BIAE).

The release further stated that they were designed to honour the achievements of finance ministers, central bank governors, financial institutions and other related entities who have contributed significantly to the reform, modernisation and expansion of the continent’s banking and financial systems.
