WITs need support

26 May 2014

Members and staff of Kgatleng Land Board should support their work improvement team, chairperson of the board, Mr Banquo Mogome said last week.

Addressing a land board meeting in Mochudi, Mr Mogome said the work improvement team needed support, especially after it won position one at the awards ceremony of the Ministry of Lands and Housing in Palapye recently.

Mr Mogome said the work improvement team would represent the ministry at the public service convention to be held next month, after which they could compete globally with counterparts of Commonwealth companies.

“My humble request to you and through you to the rest of the staff and members to lend the team your full support because their success is ours,” he said.

“In this regard I would like to reiterate a pledge you made earlier this year that you would be available to participate in any efforts directed towards pushing the mandate of the land board forward.”

On other issues, Mr Mogome said in the LAPCAS project their performance was below par, noting that they were trailing behind almost all land boards in terms of carrying out the project.

“It was revealed that our team was yet to consult traditional leaders within the project area about demarcation of ward boundaries for ease of implementation of the projects, therefore I call upon this meeting to make a resolution that henceforth the district implementation team should represent comprehensive monthly reports on the project, highlighting progress, challenges and their mitigation measures,” he said.

Mr Mogome said the layout plan was being prepared for Dikwididi. A meeting was held in the area to appraise the community about the progress.

He said they were informed that the plan was submitted to the town and country planning board for consideration.

However, he said he was informed that Dikwididi residents were yet to be allocated the cemetery.

He said scarcity of land was a painful reality when a simple comparison of demand and supply was made.

The decision to abolish waiting lists and to impose a moratorium on receipt of applications did not obliterate the fact of the existence of effective demand for land among Batswana. ENDS
