BOCCIM restructures

Botswana Confederation of Commence Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM) president, Mr Lekwalo Mosienyane has informed the business community that the organisation is in the process of restructuring to become a true confederation body, which will represent everybody.

Speaking at the BOCCIM northern trade fair awards in Francistown on May 23, Mr Mosienyane said their members had given them a clear indication that the organisation needed to change and become more responsive to the membership needs.

He said the BOCCIM council had adopted a new strategy plan that wouldl soon be rolled out to their regions. Mr Mosienyane appealed to their members to assist them in the formation of associations amongst the various business sectors as well as the formation of regional chambers based on specific economic regions.

He nonetheless highlighted that they had since started in Selebi Phikwe where they formed SPEDU chambers and noted that the next stop will be Francistown.

The formation of such associations and chambers, he said, will help ensure that BOCCIM is representative of many businesses through affiliated associations and this will confirm BOCCIM’s representation of the business community in the country.

He added that the regional chambers will ensure that businesses in each economic locality are able to engage the public sector on issues of Local Economic Development (LED).

Mr Mosienyane said LED issues have become topical for each local authority and businesses at local levels, while at the same time such bodies will provide them with an opportunity to engage and lead the public sector on issues relating to economic relating to economic regeneration and growth.

Meanwhile new exhibitors at the fair marked their presence as they walked away with awards.

Under the traders’ category Builders Warehouse Francistown branch, a first timer at the show scooped the first price followed by Macmillan and Forever Living Products.

Last year’s overall winner Mphorium Investments retained the first price title in the business sector category with Bella Larisa and Destiny car rental scooping the runner up and third prices.

New Era science and Technology College also a first timer was awarded the third price with BOCODOL and Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) taking the second and first positions respectively. ENDS
