Kagiso Senior pleads for support

25 May 2014

The management of Kagiso Senior Secondary School in Ramotswa has resolved to plead with communities in their catchment area not to desert the school despite the bad performance recorded in the past.

The Deputy School Head, Mr Richard Ojang, made the plea during kgotla meetings he addressed along with the MP for South East South, Mr Odirile Motlhale in Ramotswa recently.

Mr Ojang said for the past years, most parents had been transferring their children who had obtained grade B or better, from their junior certificates to nearby schools such as St Joseph’s College, Good Hope Senior Secondary and Naledi Senior Secondary School.

He said the absence of the top performing students at Kagiso Senior Secondary School reduced competition among the students.

He added that when the school assessment was done, grading looked into A, B, C, D and E produced, this disadvantaged the school because potential high performers would be elsewhere.

However, he admitted that the school had in the past been performing badly but noted that the situation had changed. He attributed the poor performance to some students’ deviant behaviour towards fellow students and teachers.

He pointed that since the school changed its management two years ago, there were signs of performance is improvement, adding that they were doing everything in their power to stabilise the situation.

Mr Ojang expressed gratitude towards the village leadership lead by Kgosi Mosadi of Balete and Mr Motlhale for their support.

For his part, Mr Motlhale said it was important for the parents to work together with teachers in order for the schools to produce good results.

He said it was disturbing that Kagiso Senior Secondary School, which was known for excellent performance, suddenly became one of the low performing schools in Botswana.

Mr Motlhale said with the support of parents, the school could make Balete proud just like Letlapeng Football Club.

He urged parents to participate in the learning process of their children to ensure good results. ENDS
