Business community donates to trust
22 May 2014
Members of the business community on Wednesday, May 21 donated about 3 400 chairs to the President’s Charity Trust.
The A & T Accountants, Auditors and Company Secretaries together with 27 corporate companies and institutional contributors and the Honorary Consulate of Sri – Lanka combined efforts for the philanthropic activity.
Receiving the donation, Acting Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Mr Shaw Kgathi said the chairs which would be distributed to dikgotla across the country would provide comfort and dignity to many senior citizens.
Mr Kgathi said besides being a genuine response by members of the community to genuine community needs, the donation would have a positive impact on people’s collective social wellbeing.
In recent years, he said the response of individuals and organisations to President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s philanthropic appeal for those who are relatively privileged to extend a helping hand to those in greater need has been overwhelming.
He said, “hardly a week goes by in which we do not find cause to celebrate various charitable initiatives,” adding that the cumulative impact of the generosity can be seen in communities across the country.
This, he said was a welcome trend that should continue to carry the nation forward as a proud and compassionate nation of givers as well as receivers.
Minister Kgathi expressed appreciation to A & T Associates Accountants, Auditors and Company secretaries and the honorary consul of Sri Lanka for making the event possible.
He said he hoped that the noble gesture would further encourage others to follow the example.
In an interview after handing over the chairs, A & T Associates Company Mr Mohamed Thariq said their donation of the chairs to the President’s Charity Trust was a way of giving back to the community and was hopeful that the chairs would be put to good use by the beneficiaries. ENDS
