20 May 2014

Gaborone-based Maxi Possibilities company donated two wheelchairs, 300 pairs of socks, 300 balaclavas or woolen hoods and 173 pairs of gloves to Ketapele Caring Organisation in Lerala.

Ketapele Caring Organisation was formed by some youth in Lerala in 2011 aiming at taking care ol the elderly. Speaking during a handover ceremony in Lerala on May 17, the director of Maxi Possibilities, Mr Sitheni Mbaimbai, said the P13 000 donation was a support to the organisation and contributing back to the community.

He implored members of the organisation to give the gifts to the right persons, adding that those who would receive the donation should also use them wisely.

Mr Mbaimbai said it was a pleasure to see young people showing love, care and support to every elder in the community. He encouraged elders to always support the effort of their children as well as appreciating what they got through the organisation, adding: “with your support your children’s dreams would turn into reality.”

“Today we are in Lerala because of your children, so as elders you should take having such kind of children in your village as a blessing,” he said. Mr Mbaimbai promised that Maxi Possibilities would continue to help Ketapele Caring Organization by sharing with it the little that the company had.

Mr Mashele Mmemo, the chairperson of Ketapele Caring Organisation, the donations came at an opportune time as it would assist to keep elders warm during this winter season while the wheelchairs would be used to help people who were sick or disabled.

Mr Mmemo said one wheelchair would be used to help elders at the clinic while the other one would go to assist them at the Post Office. He said his company had passion to improve the lives of senior citizens in their community and beyond.

He added that young people had the responsibility to look after their grandparents as they still believed that each child belong to every parent in the society. He also said Ketapele Caring Organisation was planning an office for itself.

One hundred and forty-nine senior citizens attended the ceremony and each one of them went home with a pair of socks, gloves and a balaclava. Ends
