Chess federation formulates strategy
18 May 2014
The Botswana Chess Federation (BCF) executive committee and the general membership convened on May 17 to formulate and align their strategy with the BNSC Vision 2028.
The strategy session facilitated by a former chess player and strategist, Chilipi Mogasha from Innolead Consulting, a company which was instrumental in coming up with the BNSC strategy saw the BCF executive committee and general membership set targets aligned to the BSNC 2028 strategy.
Key performance indicators agreed upon included increasing the federation’s medal count at international, continental and Zonal events. The strategy extended further to cover growth areas such as increasing the number of people playing chess competitively to 8 000 by 2016, from the current 4 000.
Salient in the strategy was the federation’s mammoth task of increasing chess playing amongst different groups within the society, notably among people with disabilities. This objective resonated with the BNSC 2028 vision element, which advocated for sports for all.
The federation also spent sizeable amount of time deliberating on ways to improve, attract and retain strategic partners. This came against the backdrop of the previous strategy that scored the federation highly on strategic partnership management.
BCF president Tshenolo Maruatona explained that the federation and the general membership would meet for the last session to finalise and document the strategy in the near future.
The president emphasized the importance of having a specific, measurable and attainable objectives and he indicated that the strategy is the best referral tool to continuously review and measure the federation’s deliverables. ENDS
