14 May 2014

In a bid to sell Botswana to the Chinese society, Batswana studying in China will organise a get together fuction intended to attract all Batswana living in China.

Spearheaded by the Botswana Student Association in China (BOSAC), the event, dubbed Bona Botswana, is scheduled for October in Beijing.

“This event will not only promote Botswana, it will also be a platform for the exhibition of Botswana’s various untapped investment opportunities through our partners and sponsors,” BOSAC spokesperson, Mr Mmoloki Gabatlhaolwe explained.

Mr Gabatlhaolwe said the event would be held on the date of Botswana’s national elections so that eligible Batswana living in China could vote.

The second year student, pursuing a PhD in International Politics at Xiamen University, added that apart from the Bona Botswana Day, his association also took part in cultural events across Chinese universities, where Batswana students are enrolled.

“These activities go a long way in promoting Botswana as well as educating the general public about Botswana.

They also educate the general student population in China about Botswana as a country and as a place of immense opportunities,” he said.

He further noted that they were planning to form partnerships with other nations that have interest in Botswana or Africa as a whole.

The partnerships, he noted, would provide a leeway for multinationals to easily access information on different sectors of Botswana.

Furthermore, Mr Gabatlhaolwe said plans were also underway for BOSAC to collaborate with the Ministry of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism to establish a link between China and the tourism sector in Botswana.

“The beautiful Botswana landscapes and breathtaking wildlife makes it the ideal place for tourists who want to go on holiday in a safe country that has also reasonable tourism packages.

“BOSAC will liaise with the ministry in Botswana to be able to establish a formidable link between China and Botswana tourism,” he explained. ENDS
