Constituency tournaments can improve lives

13 May 2014

Youth in Kgalagadi District have been challenged to make use of constituency tournaments to improve their livelihoods.

Giving his opening remarks at the kits handover event in Tsabong recently, the secretary at the office of the Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi South, Pius Tumaeletse, advised athletes to make hay while the sun still shone.

Tumaeletse was on behalf of the MP, John Toto, presenting the kits to the champions of the constituency tournament ward level circle 1 of 2014/2015 donated by the President, Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

The kits included 10 footballs, seven netball and seven volleyball teams from Tsabong Sub District. “I encourage you to work even harder to achieve more and not forgetting those who did not make it to pull up their socks and make it happen in the next tournament,” he said.

Tumaeletse said besides unearthing talent, sport promoted a healthy lifestyle that enhanced productivity. He went on to urge athletes to make use of constituency tournaments to not only put bread on the table but to spread their wings.

He challenged the teams to stay focused to their dreams quoting the words of wisdom: “Every failure brings with it the equivalent seed of success” by Napoleon Hill. The Deputy District Commissioner, Patrick Isaac, urged the athletes to take that donation as a motivation to aim for the stars.

He advised teams to explore sport in every possible ways, saying growth takes a good deal of persistence and the zeal to get to the top.

Isaac said it took commitment and team work to achieve the best, adding that sports was good for learning accountability, it boosts confidence and helps build relationships.

He added that sports should be taken as a form of recreation, especially that the Kgalagadi District did not have recreational facilities. Ends
