System issues unique Omang numbers - officer

It is impossible for different people to have the same identity card number, a spokesperson of the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs has said.
Ms Irene Ikutlweng said in an interview that the national registration system was automated and configured to issue unique Omang card numbers for every individual.
Ms Ikutlweng said the issuing of replicate Omang card numbers used to happen in the past when the ministry operated a manual system for issuing Identity cards. She indicated that the ministry sometimes received reports of cases of fraud and forgery. One case was reported last year.
She said to prevent cases of fraud and to protect the integrity of the national identity card, special security features had been imbedded in it. ENDS
