Rolling Boys maintain promotion hopes

08 May 2014

Rolling Boys coach, Wire Kaelo is confident that his team can stage a second-leg fight back on Saturday to secure promotion to the be Mobile Premier League.

The Debswana First Division South runners-up went down 2-1 to BR Highlanders in the first-leg of the premier league promotional playoffs in Mahalapye last weekend and would need victory to turn the tide.

Speaking in interview ahead of their second-leg scheduled for Gaborone on Satirday, May 10 from 3pm, Kaelo said his team was capable of sealing back to back promotions.

Rolling Boys were promoted to the first division via the playoffs last year after winning the Gaborone Regional League- division one and went on to enjoy a successful 2013/14 campaign, finishing behind Letlapeng in the race for automatic promotion to the elite league.

Now they require a 1-0 victory, or any win by a margin of two goals to reach the premier league. After letting a lead slip away in the first-leg, Kaelo  warned his players to be compact during tomorrow's game.

“We conceded two soft goals in Mahalapye and we must now minimise mistakes and keep things tight. All we need is to score and make sure that we do not concede. They are a good team with dangerous wingers, but I believe we can beat them if we can cut their supply from midfield,” said Kaelo.

If they win, it would actually be the fourth successive year that Kaelo, a former Gaborone United defender, would have guided the team to promotion.

The fairy-tale started in 2011 when he won promotion from the Gaborone Region with Security Systems, and weaved his magic again in 2012 by guiding the same team to the premier league as First Division South champions.

But Systems were deregistered the same year, without having kicked a ball in the premier league, after failing to pay annual affiliation fees to Botswana Football Association.

Instead of despairing, the Systems management bought Rolling Boys and Kaelo immediately guided them from regional football to the first division last year.

“It will be a great achievement for me and the club if we can make it to the premier league after all what happened to us in the past. It will be one of my highest moments in football.”

Kaelo said it took a lot of dedication and passion from him, the Rolling Boys management, players and supporters to bounce back from the disappointment of getting deregistered and build another winning team. Ends
