Partnerships facilitate education growth

Mr Labane Mokgosi, the director of Botswana Education Hub, says partnership in education is important as it can facilitate growth and value addition.

Speaking at the end of a visit to Botswana by representatives of the University of Louisville from United States of America, Mr Labane said partnerships were important in today’s global world as they enabled sharing of ideas and experiences from countries across the world.

Representatives of the University of Louisville were in Botswana from April 30 to May 7. Mr Mokgosi said from the visit they learnt that the University of Louisville used a different method of teaching, which was more interactive, produced well rounded and competitive students when compared to Botswana’s conventional method of teaching.

“This partnership also helped us to market Botswana. We also learnt new skills in education,” he said. The delegates from Louisville comprised of 43 students and seven professors.

The Vice President from University of Louisville Dr Tom Jackson said it was their sixth visit to Botswana. He added that their partnership with Botswana Education Hub has been successful and facilitated engagements between students and education staff from both countries. 

A Botho University student, Patricia Nkwane, said the experience from interactions with the visiting students was awesome and profitable. The head of Maoka Junior Secondary School, Ms Tselane Temeki, said her students benefited a lot from the life skills programs offered by University of

The students were volunteering through their International Service-Learning (ISL) program which has existed since 1997. ISL aims to encourage students to work with different countries to solve complex challenges.  The Louisville students visited Nanogang JSS, Kwena Sereto JSS, Maoka JSS, Hope Mission and Botho University College.
