Lodges Plateau students a treat
08 May 2014
Plateau Primary School top achievers received an unforgettable reward when Thebe, Toro and Chobe safari lodges organised a boat-cruise for them on Tuesday, May 6.
A teacher at the school and coordinator of the boat-cruise, Mr Polite Dube said the top achievers from Standard 1-7 needed motivation to continue doing well.
Mr Dube said given the right motivation, there was no limit to how far one could go. He said motivation was a positive reinforcement to acceptable behavior.
“We firmly believe that incentives can influence and affect learners’ performance in a positive way and unrecognised effort can easily go to waste.” He noted.
Mr Dube noted that they to sourced funds for the event from parents, individuals, companies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and institutions to ensure the success of the initiative.
Thebe River Safari Lodge sourced out two 55-seater and 20-seater boats that most pupils used, while Toro and Chobe Safari Lodges offered a boat cruise at a discount.
Mr Dube said the school highly appreciated these lodges’ help to make their efforts towards academic excellence a success. Furthermore, he said the activity was a motivational strategy that would help learners to appreciate the importance of hard work.
It would also help the learners to interact with great minds in the entire school.
A professional guide at Chobe Safari Lodge, Mr Kenneth Mungomba, who was engaged to educate the students during the boat cruise, said beyond allowing the children to interact outside the classroom environment, the boat cruise also served as an outdoor learning activity. Ends
