Primary school heads conference May 13

The Ministry of Education and Skills Development will hold the national primary school heads biennial conference aimed at promoting and sustaining efforts of enhancing professional development and motivation of school heads.

The conference billed for Gaborone on May 13-15 would be be officially opened by the acting Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi.

According to a press release from the ministry, the conference would seek to establish consultative partnership with the relevant local authorities with a view to advice on issues related to infrastructure and resources so as to aid the implementation of the recommendations of the RNPE of 1994.

The release said the conference was mandated to have representation at national and international forums on education, advise the ministry on matters related to conditions of service, teachers and learners’ welfare and the development of the education system.

It further stated that the conference aimed to support the ministry and its departments in ensuring that quality education was delivered in primary schools by confirming the themes emanating from regional and national conferences.

The conference was established in 2000 with the sole purpose of advising the ministry on issues related to professional development of teachers’ welfare, academic performance and the general status of the primary institutions. ENDS
