The deputy coordinator of Botswana 50th Anniversary Independence, Mr Boipelo Gaothusi has encouraged Mahalapye Sub-district council to create more awareness, hype and excitement towards the 50th independence celebrations in 2016.

Addressing sub-district development committee in Mahalapye recently, Mr Gaothusi said the countdown towards 50th anniversary and Vision 2016 had started last year. Thus, he said there should be activities in the run up to the main event in 2016.

Already, he explained that the preparatory committee had been set up named Botswana Fifty Anniversary Coordination Unity abbreviated as BOT FIFTY or BOT 50.

The team, he noted had come up with activities that would enable it to achieve worthy celebrations hence he called for all’s full participation.

Some of the activities, he said included the hosting of the Botswana flag in all the towers and tall buildings around the country.

He said every Motswana should be in a position to explain the flag to foreigners if asked.

Also, he said some of the pre-50th independence activities were the launch of the BOT 50 logo, song, secretariat and website scheduled to be launched in June.

Further, he said there were on going promotions such as fashion shows, carnival market days, cultural festivals and traditional games around the country to sensitise Batswana about the 2016 independence celebrations. ENDS
