A financing company, AFRITEC has heeded the government’s call for the private sector’s participation in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development’s initiative of ‘Back to School’.
Speaking during the awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 30 in Gaborone, AFRITEC operations manager, Mr Letsho Ramahobo said the company runs a competition dubbed “Back to school” intended to assist parents in paying their children’s tuition fees.
Mr Ramahobo said they collaborated with MoESD by aligning their corporate social responsibility to the ministry’s initiative of “Back to school.”
He said the competition started on January 3 to February 15, this year to allow any person who took a loan within that period to participate in the competition.
The competition was conducted through a raffle and audited by Price Water House Coopers and five people emerged winners and received a P5000 cheque each.
One of the winners, Ms Thulaganyo Nyathi said she was overwhelmed as it was her first time to win, saying she would use the money to enroll for a short course.
The deputy permanent secretary in the ministry’s Support Services, Mr Kgopotso Ramoroka appreciated AFRITEC’s gesture saying its contribution has made a significant impact on people’s lives.
Mr Ramoroka said AFRITEC’s approach towards giving back to the community was different, saying it was in line with the ministry’s initiative such as Adopt a school, Parents Teachers Association and education mentors.
He said government needed private sector participation even at individual level to assist in driving its programmes.
The AFRITEC general manager finance, Mr Boyd Luwe said the assistance was meant to demonstrate that the company appreciated the business they get from Batswana. ENDS
