Ipelegeng want bigger projects
01 May 2014
Residents of Ntloedibe ward in Molepolole who have been hired as Ipelegeng workers have asked to be engaged in productive projects which would create durable structures and employment.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting that was addressed by their Member of Parliament, Mr Daniel Kwelagobe, residents said they were given meaningless tasks which did not improve or develop their ward. They said cutting grass and trees was a waste of time and resources.
“Cutting grass and all the projects that Ipelegeng workers are currently engaged in in our ward is a waste of government resources and money, and a waste of the employees time, we need to use this scheme for very important projects that will take us a long way,” said Ms Goabaone Dipate.
Ms Dipate said when the Ipelegeng programme was still called Namola Leuba in the past, they built structures that were still erect in their wards today.
She said Ipelegeng also had to leave developments even if it was for the temporary relief of financially distressed Batswana.
She said project that could be undertaken through Ipelegeng include building roads, classrooms and houses for needy people.
The Ipelegeng employees said they want to leave monuments that would be recognised as substantial structures.
They said after cutting grass or trees, there would be nothing to show for it in future.
Cllr Jeffery Sibisibi of Ntloedibe ward said residents could also use the Ipelegeng programme to carry out development, noting that a road in his ward had been paved through Ipelegeng.
He said if things go according to plan, some development projects would be undertaken through Ipelegeng instead of inviting tenders. Ends
