Initiative benefits Oodi weavers

The community service day initiative is contributing positively to various communities.

The acting Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Shaw Kgathi said this at Oodi Weavers compound on April 25 where President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama donated blankets, stove and sewing machines to the cooperative.

Mr Kgathi said the initiative, which is on its fourth year running , was well appreciated by various communities. He stated that the initiative aimed to do community service, hence contribute to the development of various communities.

He said there was a positive feedback from the community, which indicated that through team work, a lot could be achieved. Furthermore, the minister paid tribute to the women of Oodi Weavers Cooperative, saying despite the challenges they encountered during the life of the cooperation, they had not given up.

Hence, he said it was the intention of the Office of the President staff and the Cabinet to give a new face to Oodi waivers. Furthermore, he made an appeal to the business community to help revive the Oodi Weavers cooperation.

Minister Kgathi added that the department of gender affairs had promised to assess the challenges faced by the cooperation, with an intention of coming up with a long lasting solution.

For his part, the chairperson of Oodi Weavers, Ms Itshekeng Molwantwa expressed gratitude towards the President, Office of the President staff and the Cabinet.


Ms Molwantwa said the assistance of the Office of the President was an indication that Oodi Weavers was coming back to life. Furthermore, she added that members of the association were already grown up and pointed that there was need for young ones to join forces. ENDS
