Matambo appreciates ministry staff

24 Apr 2014

Minister of Finance and Development Planning, Mr Kenneth Matambo has commended staff in his ministry for the quality service they render  to Batswana.

Speaking at his ministry’s first award giving ceremony in Gaborone on April 23, Mr Matambo said he was proud to work with the winning team and urged them to do their best and even improve their marks.

He said the 2013 public service customer and employee satisfaction survey put his ministry at the top in terms of quality of service and said the achievement was worth celebrating.

Minister Matambo said his ministry’s customer satisfaction level was rated at 51 per cent, which was an improvement from 29 per cent attained in 2009 when the last survey was conducted and said it was commendable that in the midst of problems and challenges of shortage of resources they had been able to do more with the little resources at their disposal.

He said though they had been ranked number one, the score of 51 per cent meant that they just made it to be above the minimum requirement of 50 per cent, but otherwise fell short of meeting the required expectation.

He therefore, urged his staff to work hard to take the service delivery to greater heights, not only to retain the top position, but also to contribute to the strategic objective of improving Botswana’s national competitiveness and they also have to consistently find ways to improve, innovate, do more with less and overcome challenges.

Mr Matambo said the 2013 survey identified some areas which are the main sources of customer dissatisfaction ,including among others the retrieval of records, queues at service counters in revenue offices, inadequate number of service counters, time taken to procure goods and supplies.

He said there is an urgent need for all to work on these challenges in order to improve the ministry’s service delivery, and urged those who will be receiving awards to continue with the good work they are doing and challenged those who will be not receiving to double their efforts and work hard to achieve the best results for the ministry and Batswana in general.

A total of 60 officers got awards and some monetary rewards. ENDS
