Councillors refuse to comment on speech

Okavango Sub-district councillors have decided not to comment on the sub-council chairperson’s speech after they complained about staff movements.
Speaking in an interview on April 23, the chairperson Councillor Samson Mauano said the councillors sought clarification about one of the officers whom they said should have not been transferred to Maun.
He explained that he advised the councillors not to interfere with the decisions made by the sub-council administration and this angered them.
Specially Elected councillor, Lesedi Boy said it was better if the officer could have been promoted to the post in Gumare since there was a vacant post.
Other councillors echoed the sentiments and therefore resolved not to comment on the chairperson’s speech. Assistant council secretary, Ms Mogomotsi Seemule informed the meeting that they recommended the officer because he had been acting for the post for a long time.
Councillors also complained about the non-appointment of an assistant to the committees’ secretary and in response to that, Ms Seemule said if indeed the secretary was overworked, the supervisors could have long realised it and acted on it.
She explained that there was someone who assisted the secretary and the major problem was that the councillors did not approve of it. ENDS
