Tlokweng border registers low volume

22 Apr 2014

Tlokweng border post registered a reduction in the number of people who entered and left the country during the just ended Easter Holidays as compared to the same period last year.

Immigration officer in charge at the border confirmed that on Monday noon (April 21) the volume of both arrivals and departures had slightly reduced, a development which he partly attributed to lack of money among many people in general.

Mr Kedumetse Lepang noted that the border post, which closed at 12 midnight, did not experience an influx of customers during the entire holiday except on Thursday (April 17) when they closed at around 230 p.m.

Altogether the border post registered 23 683 travellers, 12 339 were arrivals while 11 334 were departures. Last year Tlokweng board post registered a total of 25 678, of whom 12 827 were arrivals while 12 851 were departures.

Most of the people who crossed the border this time around were church goers and those going on holiday. The country, however, did not register a significant number of tourists from South Africa.

Meanwhile, Mr Lepang said this time around they did not encounter problems such as travellers coming with wrong passports or demanding emergency travel assistance. There were no cases of illegal immigrants who are usually detained before they could be sent to their respective countries. ENDS
