Only two Makuta youth enrol in Tirelo Setshaba

21 Apr 2014

Only two youths from Makuta in the Tutume Sub-district have been absorbed into the newly introduced Botswana National Service Programme (BNSP), also known as Tirelo Sechaba.

This was said by one Makuta resident during a kgotla meeting addressed by the deputy district commissioner, Mr Michael Chilimba recently. A resident, Ms Chikadzi Babakisi, said the youth in the village had applied in large numbers and their applications were taken to Nswazwi for onward transmission to the Tutume youth office.

In response, the youth officer, Ms Onalenna Obetile said they received a call last month informing them that some forms were still at Nswazwi. Ms Obetile said there was nothing that could be done as the deadline for submission of applications had long passed.

The Village Development Committee (VDC) treasurer, Mr Kitso Mukani also concurred that the forms were misplaced and thus they were still doing some follow-ups as to what could have led to that.

In an interview, the two youths who benefited, Ms Malebogo Langanani, who is attached to the village kgotla and Mr Moagi Manisa, who is currently at the primary school, both said they delivered their applications to the youth office in person. Ends
