Church critical to nation building - minister

21 Apr 2014

Government is committed to nurturing spirituality and great human values, says Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Dorcas Makgato-Malesu.

Thus, Ms Makgato-Malesu said the church remained an important institution in nation building. She was speaking during Heavenly Garrison Ministries’ Easter conference in Serowe.

She pointed out that the church was more than just a building but should be regarded as a place to get comfort, spiritual deliverance and even where people could network with colleagues and God himself.

“It is institutions such as this one that help to entrench Godly deeds and profound moral values in our communities,” she said. She stressed that whenever people gathered in God’s name, good results were expected which would then build and influence the social fabric of the culture in a positive way.

“Our beloved country we live in is a country faced by social ills, such as lack of accountability, moral decay, selfishness, insecurity and greed.
Most of our children are not protected from these and they are unable to cope.”

She further lamented that the country was faced with unprecedented levels of alcoholism, sexual crimes, abuse and parents being held at ransom by children. “It is through gatherings such as this one where we get to share advice and guide our country men and women,” she said.

She also encouraged the church congregats to use government initiatives such as cottage industries agricultural programmes which include LIMID, ISPAAD, among others, and other programmes such as CEDA, LEA and cooperatives.

Meanwhile, the church advisor, Mr Leornard Sesa pointed out that the church was engulfed with a number of challenges, notably lack of land. Mr Sesa highlighted that it was the vision of the church founder, Prophet Meshack Mangadi to have a church, school, hospital among others on one piece of land but was constrained by lack of land.

Therefore, he pleaded with government to avail land for churches. Meanwhile, Ms Makgato-Malesu pledged 50 bags of cement to be used for the construction of the church temporary structure at the church headquarters in Palapye. ends
