BGU national team in SA

13 Apr 2014

The Botswana Golf Union (BGU) national team, under the tutelage of Joseph Marudi, left for South Africa on April 13 to partake at this year’s Zone 1V golf championships.

The annual tournament which would be held in Cape Town ends on April 18. Over 10 African countries including Botswana would participate.

In an interview, BGU secretary general, Mpho Kelosiwang said Botswana did exceptional well occupying position eight in the last tournament that was held in Namibia and was won by South Africa.

He said the worst performance should be attaining position five looking at the calibre of the players they had selected and the level of preparations that they did this year. “We have done our best in terms of preparing the team and we should go there and apply all the skills they have acquired.”

He said the performance of the team would also be reviewed after the tournament adding that it was the second time they had fielded young starts in the squad.  All the five players are below the age of 22, while the remaining were in their 30s.

Kelosiwang said their main objective had always been to select young players in every tournament and being the second year putting young stars in the same tournament, that shows that their development programme was starting to show results.

The team is comprised of Leroy Peerman, Walter Seokemong, Sipho Abueng, David Masole, Share Granger, Kesentseng Dube, Nabeel Desai and Ketshepaone Madikane. ENDS
