Ministrys quest to impart knowledge continues
13 Apr 2014
The setting up of the children library at St Theresa Primary School in Peleng demonstrates the ministry’s commitment to national development through promotion of knowledge and information dissemination.
This was said by head of department for public libraries, Ms Chinnana Selolwane at the launch of Lobatse district community service activity. Ms Selolwane said the children’s library will not only be source of entertainment but will bring new information and knowledge to the community.
Ms Selolwane explained that libraries, the world over, were agents of change and vehicles of social development. Thus she emphasised that the library would enable learners to fulfil their learning needs and give adults an opportunity to improve their knowledge life skills.
The assistant district commissioner, Mr Ernest Phiri encouraged parents to buy books as presents for children saying by so doing they would be instilling the interest of reading and writing.
Mr Phiri thanked those who made the setting up of the library possible, namely the Fast cash, Pakistan Shop , Jamal Trading Company, Master Print, Project Concern International, BMC, Choppies Hyper and Brigade School.
Earlier on, Kgosi Mpaesele Itumeleng of Peleng welcomed the children’s library saying that it will help children in the area acquire reading and writing skills.
Kgosi Itumeleng said the donation showed stakeholder participation in improving the country’s education system. He therefore encouraged other companies to partner with government for the country to realise the much required value added and quality education.
He also urged parents to encourage children to use the services offered by the library so as to encourage the culture of reading at an early age. ENDS
