Donation of 500 solar lamps by the Hindu Community Botswana to Office of the President is going to make a contribution towards performance of learners in rural villages, says the Acting Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Shaw Kgathi.
Speaking during the donation ceremony in Gaborone on Wednesday, April 9, Mr Kgathi said the impact that the donation would make was immense.
Mr Kgathi said Batswana were privileged to have a president who lived a life that was compassionate towards the less-privileged people, noting that they were appreciative of the offer and hope that many would follow suit.
When commenting the President of Hindu Community of Botswana, Mr Manhar Mooney, said the donation of 500 units of solar lamps was going to bring light in to the lives of the people who lived in remote areas.
“What can be more important than to provide some light in their lives,” he said, noting that they do not have the capacity to install generators in remote areas like the urban dwellers.
Mr Mooney said the lamps would give beneficiaries a cost free facility to communicate with one another other throughout the night.
He said the lamps could be recharged during the day, also children could do their homework after school hours and women could prepare for chores of the following day.
Mr Mooney further indicated that the Hindu Community Botswana donated three classrooms to a school in Mmadinare as well as porta cabins in three schools. ENDS
