The President, Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, on April 10, met with the chairperson of the Botswana Society, Professor Bojosi Otlhogile, who was accompanied by other members of his board.

According to a press release from Botswana Government Communication and Information System (BGCIS), the purpose of the meeting was to brief the President about the society’s ongoing activities.

“The meeting occurred in the context of the His Excellency’s agreement last year to serve as the Society’s patron,” states the release.

The release states that’s among the issues raised during the briefing was the progress of Society’s Cultural Heritage Tourism Project, which has been established to promote entrepreneurship, tour development, guide training, and internet marketing activities for greater diversification and job creation within the tourism sector.

“President Lt Gen. Khama was further informed about the Society’s Public Forum Series, which this year is focusing on issues of water management.”

In addition, the release says the President was also updated on the progress of the Society’s print and online publication activities and he was pleased to receive his copy of the latest, 45th edition, of the Society’s annual journal, Botswana Notes and Records.

Founded in 1968, the Botswana Society is the country’s oldest, indigenous, active non-governmental, non-profit organisation. It mission is to empower people with knowledge by making Botswana better known to itself and the world, through its publications, training programmes and promotion of local research.
