No driver examiner in Tsabong
10 Apr 2014
The Department of Road Transport and Safety has, between January and March this year, conducted theory and practical tests in Tsabong where a total of 479 candidates were tested.
Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Nonofo Molefhi told Parliament on April 9 that there was no driver examiner stationed in Tsabong, but officers from Kanye and Jwaneng assisted the office on rotational basis. He also noted that theory tests were regularly being conducted at Tsabong, Middlepits, Bokspits and Werda.
Furthermore, he said learner drivers were not transported to Jwaneng or any place of testing, rather they were free to book for tests at any of the testing stations and was their responsibilities to transport themselves.
Minister Molefhi said the ministry had had an acute shortage of driver examiners, but they intended to address the situation this coming financial year through the ongoing staff rationalisation exercise. He however said the driver examiner would be deployed to Tsabong by June 1, 2014.
Kgalagadi South MP, Mr John Toto had wanted to know if the minister was aware that Tsabong transport office had not conducted driving tests for the past six months, if so, why and when this would be addressed.
He had also asked how much was spent on transporting learners to Jwaneng for testing and whether they were insured in case of accidents and why there was no testing officer in Tsabong. Ends
