Kgala-Borwa back on feet.

A recent meeting of the executive committee resulted in the resuscitation of Kgala-Borwa Association, an organisation that draws attention to the rights of the disabled.
Kgala-Borwa’s chairperson, Mr James Sampson, recently revealed that the organisation was back on its feet and its membership now covered Kokotsha, Hereford, Werda, and Struizendam.
“Our membership is now broader and this will help us perform better in promoting the rights of people living with disability,” he said.
He said the association existed to draw attention to the rights of people with disabilities, to engage people with disabilities on income generating projects and to contribute towards development of Kgalagadi South.
Mr Sampson said Kgala-Borwa continued to open up opportunities for the disabled and listen to their profound grievances and requests and be allied to relevant organisations.
He said he hoped that the organisation’s membership, which was spread across the region, would carry out their roles diligently and become the eyes and ears of people living with disabilities.
He further revealed that they plan to open a bank account very soon in which they will save income generated from fund raising initiatives. “We hope our members will also interact and build relations so that they uplift each other as people with disabilities,” he said.
For his part, Social Welfare Officer Mr Manfred Kono said the Department of Social and Community Development (S&CD) aims to empower people with disabilities and help them improve their livelihoods. He assured Kgala-Borwa that the department will meet them halfway.
“The Kgala-South association for people with disabilities is a great platform that will enable integration of people with disabilities by engaging the public and other stakeholders,” he said. ENDS
