The corporate social investment (CIS) team from Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) have donated a garden and tools to Nkoyaphiri Primary School.
Speaking during the handing over, the acting chief executive officer for BAMB Mr Elvis Ncaagae said they decided to establish the garden as a way of supporting and encouraging agriculture in the school’s curriculum, as well as practical concepts development.
Mr Ncaagae said their mandate was to ensure adequate supply of agricultural produce; as such they saw it fit to put the garden as it would raise awareness and interest in the agricultural sector to the students.
“In line with the government’s initiative of promoting backyard gardening, we can only hope the children and teachers will take this initiative throughout their lives to the extent that we will see a considerable number of established backyard gardens at your homes,” he said.
Meanwhile the school head Ms Angelina Mafoko applauded BAMB for their support and effort in improving their faltering agriculture results. She said the decline in the Primary School Leaving Examination, particularly in agriculture, will be history since the students will be taught theory and at the same time do practicals.
The CIS team demonstrated to the students on how to till the land, as well as taking them through the processes of sowing and application of fertilizers. ENDS
