BDF retired members Sureway insurance partner
07 Apr 2014
Botswana Defence Force Retired Members Association (BDFRMA) has entered into partnership with Sureway Insurance Brokers, which will enable the latter to establish satellite offices in BDF installations.
Speaking during the association’s annual general meeting in Palapye over the weekend (April 5 - 6), the association’s chairperson, Major General Bakwena Oitsile said the aim of the exercise was to educate new recruits, active members and retirees on the best options for investment.
He said Sureway would provide office space and employ BDFRMA members to man the satellite offices.
He further stated that the association will benefit a 10 per cent share of the gross income from funds raised from the general BDF membership.
In addition, he said the executive committee was in discussion with a security company from South Africa which had shown interest to partner with BDFRMA.
Major General Oitsile also stated that the executive was pursuing other business opportunities and had managed to form a company called Cyberlink in view of the challenges faced by members with regard to job creation and access to loans.
He said through this company, the association would venture into a number of projects that could address the needs of the membership.
However, he said challenges faced by this association were enormous and needed full participation in order to take the association to another level.
He said the association needed capital injection in order to participate efficiently in any partnerships to address issues like offices, transport and human resource requirements.
He also stated that since the inception of the association six years ago, it has not grown.
The chairperson therefore appealed to BDF retirees to join the association, adding that it was only through a large membership that the association could be able to penetrate the business market.
The association has members in six regions, namely Gaborone, Francistown, Serowe/Palapye, Mahalapye, Selibe Phikwe and Maun. Ends
