Kgatleng tribal officers operate in open spaces
06 Apr 2014
Since the 25th of March tribal administration officers at the Mochudi main kgotla have been working in open spaces.
The officers decided to carry out their duties outside their offices after the department of buildings and electrical services decided that the buildings were not safe for habitation and could not be economically repaired.
The officers revealed that the DBES carried out an assessment of the tribal administration buildings and later issued a boarding certificate on March 17.
“The officials said these buildings cannot be economically repaired, therefore the officers decided to execute their duties outside because they fear for their lives,” said Kgatleng District Tribal Secretary Ms Malefswane Bakwena.
She said her officers will continue working outside until the situation is resolved.
She added that currently the tribal administration is considering using tents or renting out new premises.
Ms Bakwena said the buildings are very old as they were constructed during the colonial era. Ends
