Member of Parliament for Gaborone South, Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi has commended the private sector in its partnership with government through Adopt- a- School concept which has improved performance in schools.
Speaking at the launch of an E-learning centre donated by Samsung Botswana to Therisanyo Primary School at Old Naledi in Gaborone, Mr Molatlhegi lauded Samsung Botswana’s partnership with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, saying it was unique.
Mr Molatlhegi said through such partnerships, government had managed to save P250 million which would be channelled towards other projects. Gaborone South legislator said since the inception of the Adopt-a-School concept, about 300 schools had been adopted across the country.
The P700 000 E-learning centre would give pupils exposure to the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) world. South East Education Region director, Mr Benson Rauwe hailed the relationship between Samsung Botswana and Therisanyo Primary school.
Mr Rauwe said the partnership was an exceptional one as it motivates both the learners and teachers to bring improvement in performance through the e-learning centre.
Therisanyo School head, Mr Segomotso Kejelepula stated that the donation was a lifetime investment in the learners’ education. The e-learning centre, he said would assist his school to produce well rounded pupils and improve performance, as they have shown improvement in results, with 54 per cent in 2013 and 34 per cent in 2012.
Samsung Country manager, Mr John Moir said their partnership with Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) would bring sustainable and innovative solutions to the African continent.
Samsung resolved to donate the E-learning centre after it used Therisanyo Primary School as a model school at the Innovation Africa conference last year. The E-learning centre involved 25 mini laptops, with a big power generator, and a printer which form part of the donation. ENDS
