Farmer donates towards FMD restocking

Kang-based farmer, Mr Henry Maapatsane has donated two cattle for restocking in Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) affected areas.
Speaking at the official handing over of the cattle, Kgalagadi District agricultural coordinator, Mr Joel Nkaikwa said the gesture by the Maapatsanes was a positive response towards achieving some of 2016 pillars especially the compassionate and just caring nation.
He applauded Mr Maapatsane for seeing it essential to give to those who were unfortunate due to the outbreak of the foot and mouth disease. Mr Nkaikwa further pleaded with other farmers around Botswana to assist government with cattle in order to make the restocking exercise a success.
For his part, Kgosi Morabeng Phori of Kang also expressed gratitude for the philanthropic job that the Maapatsane family had done. He said it should be the responsibility of every abled Motswana to help the government rather than always being depended on government.
Kgosi Phori noted that Kgalagadi region was blessed for not being among regions that had been affected by foot and mouth disease. Mr Maapatsane indicated that they were glad as a family to have managed to give the little they had to assist government.
He said they felt for the people in the affected areas and found it fitting to donate and assist government in cattle restocking initiative. Meanwhile restocking coordinator Mr Thomas Tadubana also expressed appreciation for the gift they received, affirming that restocking at Zone 7 was complete and the focus now was on zone 6.
He however said they were still behind with restocking goats. Ends
