Eloyi Christian Church, on March 30, donated a water stand pipe to Ms Sesi Mafatlha of Mahalapye Xhosa ward who is living with disability.
Speaking at the handover, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso congratulated the church for its tireless efforts and focus towards assisting the disadvantaged members of communities.
Ms Tshireletso said she was humbled by the goodwill of the church for taking a reputable position in the society. She said the donation showed that Eloyi Church was determined to support broad government initiatives such as poverty eradication and general improvement of the living standard of an ordinary Motswana.
The church was hailed for continually contributing over the years to the welfare of the people. It was noted that since 2009, they had been demonstrating a godly concept of giving.
She mentioned that some of the projects that have already been undertaken to assist communities by Eloyi include donations of blankets, groceries, wheelchair, toiletries, clothes, connection of 13 standpipes and a house.
Regarding the standpipe, Ms Tshireletso said Eloyi as a church has proved that it takes the word of God seriously, as throughout the country there are acts of humanity undertaken by the church.
She hailed Eloyi Xhosa 1 Branch number 2 for donating a water stand pipe to Ms Mafatlha.
The stand pipe is a gift that would go a long way in assisting and giving dignity to her life, she added.
The assistant minister also donated four bags of cement for plastering of the yard pit latrine, iron sheet for roofing and a door and eventually said she would donate paint.
She also challenged other churches and organisations and individuals to contribute to the development of humankind, saying they should share the same vision and mission with the government to address various challenges and concerns in the society.
For his part, the Village Development Committee chairperson for Xhosa Ward Mr Moses Gobela also encouraged churches to do something for the benefit of the people in their communities.
Mr Gobela said churches should be involved and engaged in helping and supporting people in their neighbourhoods for the better.
He also donated P200 for Ms Mafatlha for the payment of her first water bill. ENDS
