Ladies Circle shows compassion

Ladies Circle Botswana has responded positively to President’s call to show compassion and love towards other people by raising funds to assist children with Downs Syndrome and victims of stroke.
Ladies Circle is a group of women aged between 18 to 45 years and it identified needs and challenges in the society and devised strategies on how they could address them.
Ladies Circle president, Ms Duduetsang Moloy stated that the group provided mentorship programmes on life skills for its members on various issues ranging from business and family problems among others. Ms Marina Ngwako from Downs Syndrome Botswana said the association was formed with the sole purpose of assisting and supporting parents whose children have a downs syndrome.
Ms Ngwako stated the aim was to ensure that children with downs syndrome were included in the mainstream society as well as deal with issues of discrimination in the society.
She acknowledged that children with Downs Syndrome are very cheerful and active people, fond of interacting with each and every person they meet regardless of their level of acquaintance. She appealed to members of the public to accept their nature.
Children with Downs Syndrome, she said have 46 chromosomes while a person who does not have the deficiency has 45 chromosomes. Ms Bakhwi Kablay from Stroke Awareness Botswana said although stroke was the most deadly disease after HIV/AIDS but awareness about it was still limited.
The colourful event which was hosted under the theme ‘fire and ice’ depicted on the lighting used, demonstrated the ladies commitment and determination to address societal challenges.
Goddess of dunes from South Africa, who displayed fabulous Indian dance moves entertained the crowd. The funds were raised through selling tickets, raffle and an auction. Ends
