Kanye road works ongoing

31 Mar 2014

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says she is aware of the damaged roads caused by the recent rains in Kanye and Lotlhakane East.

Responding to a question in Parliament from Kanye South MP, Mr Abram Kesupile, Ms Tshireletso said her ministry, through the Southern District Council, had started doing some repair works on some roads by attending to the most affected areas first, adding that the extent of work was constrained by the limited resources.

“As the monthly Ipelegeng targets of employment for Kanye North and South constituencies are 577 and 583 and the March 2014 employment is 623 and 401 respectively, currently the Ipelegeng quota should not be increased, rather personnel to provide technical support to desilt, construct or reconstruct roads, culverts and furrows should be hired and absorbed within the targets,” she added.

Mr Kesupile had asked Ms Tshireletso if she was aware that the recent rains had left Kanye and Lotlhakane East with damaged roads, blocked culverts and blocked exits and entrances into some dikgotla and compounds and that in some places, the damages and blockages had created detours for water flow into houses;

Kanye South MP also wanted to know if the Assistant Minister would consider allowing Village Development Committees to increase Ipelegeng quotas and provide them with suitable technical support to desilt, construct or reconstruct roads, culverts and furrows. Ends
