Barclays ups Kabelano sponsorship

23 Mar 2014

Barclays Bank Botswana and Kabelano Trust have agreed a deal that will see the bank sponsor the next two editions of Kabelano Charity Cup.

The deal worth P1.1 million per year was announced at the bank’s headquarters in Gaborone on March 21. It will cover both the 2014 and 2015 editions of the popular one-day soccer spectacle.

The sponsorship is a 10 per cent increase from last year’s agreement when the bank sponsored the competition for a total of P1 million. Barclays Bank’s managing director, Reinette van der Merwe said they were happy to sponsor the charity cup for the second year running.

“The Kabelano Charity Cup is aligned to our vision to reach out to young people, equipping them with entrepreneurial skills, employability skills and life skills,” she said.

Van der Merwe said Barclays viewed itself as a development partner for Botswana and continually ensured that the communities it operated within thrived and developed.

“Our commitment to the broader society is demonstrated by our continued participation in, and contribution to sustainable projects and programmes that change the lives of underprivileged members of our communities,” she explained.

The chairperson of Kabelano Trust, Terrence Dambe expressed gratitude to Barclays for supporting the charity cup. ENDS
